Virginia Nicoli
Virginia is an Italian musician specializing in Indian classical music, particularly in its most ancient and profound form, Dhrupad. Her musical education started in early childhood with the study of Western music, learning the silver flute and other instruments.
As a young woman, traveling to India she fell deeply in love with that culture and decided to study Dhrupad intensively, both vocally and instrumentally (bansuri), integrating traditional vocal techniques with instrumental expressions.
In addition to her performance work, Virginia teaches Indian classical music to students around the world. She offers individual lessons, groups, and intensive retreats, with an approach that emphasizes deep listening, microtonality, improvisation, and personal transformation through sound.
Virginia is a unique figure in the contemporary music scene: a flutist and singer who has transformed her Western training into a bridge to Indian classical music, dedicating her artistic life to the practice, performance, teaching, and creative exploration of Dhrupad.
The meeting with Shastro - another musician who has created with his music such a bridge between East and West - has flowered into the creation of the music you will hear in Relaxing Ragas.
